Research use only (RUO)
A supply category for laboratory research materials that are not drugs, foods or devices — sold without approval for, and with the express exclusion of, human or veterinary use.
Research use only designates materials supplied for laboratory investigation and nothing else. An RUO compound is not a pharmaceutical: it has not been through the approval process that establishes a drug's identity, safety and efficacy for a use in people, and it is sold on the express condition that it will not be administered to humans or animals.
The designation describes a legal category, not a quality tier in either direction. An RUO peptide can be synthesised and characterised to a high standard — batch-tested, certificate published — while remaining outside every framework that governs medicines: no GMP manufacturing requirement, no approved labelling, no pharmacovigilance. The certificate of analysis stands in for none of those; it establishes chemical identity and purity, and nothing about safety in any organism.
This entire site operates within that category. Every compound described in the research library is supplied for research use only, the library summarises published literature without translating it into directions for use, and the compound pages state what the evidence does not establish alongside what it does — the boundary that separates a research summary from a product claim.
For research purposes only. Not for human consumption, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of any condition. Nothing on this page is medical advice.
