Somatropin
Recombinant Human Growth Hormone 191AA
Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone 191AA, supplied as a ten-vial 240 IU lyophilised powder kit for laboratory research. Price is shown in your currency, and its Certificate from a named outside laboratory is published on this page. Not for human or veterinary use.
Recombinant 191-amino-acid human growth hormone, sequence-identical to the pituitary peptide. Supplied as a reference ligand for studying GH-receptor signalling (JAK2/STAT5) and IGF-1 induction in preclinical models. Ten-vial kit, 24 IU per vial (240 IU total). Supplied strictly for laboratory research use only.
The research profile.
Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone: a 191-amino-acid single-chain polypeptide identical in sequence to the pituitary hormone, produced in engineered host cells rather than extracted from tissue. The 191AA designation distinguishes it from the 192-amino-acid met-hGH constructs used in early recombinant work.
It acts directly at the growth hormone receptor, a class I cytokine receptor whose dimerisation activates JAK2 and the STAT5 pathway. Hepatic signalling through that route drives production of insulin-like growth factor I, which mediates a substantial part of the downstream activity attributed to growth hormone. This makes somatropin pharmacologically distinct from the secretagogues and GHRH analogues on neighbouring pages: those prompt the pituitary to release its own stores, whereas somatropin supplies the hormone itself and bypasses the pituitary entirely.
The endocrinology literature on recombinant hGH is unusually mature. Controlled trials in growth hormone-deficient adults date to 1989, and the diagnostic and treatment frameworks have been formalised in consensus statements from the GH Research Society and clinical practice guidelines from the Endocrine Society. Those documents are the reference points for dosing structure, IU-based potency labelling, and study design in this compound class.
16 peer-reviewed studies on Somatropin are summarised in our research library, including 13 published since 2023 — with study designs, reported findings and what the evidence does not establish.

What the literature reports.
For research and laboratory use only. Not for human consumption.
The 1989 controlled trial administered 0.07 U per kg of bodyweight daily; later consensus and guideline documents moved to low fixed starting amounts titrated against IGF-I, rather than weight-based schedules. The 1–4 IU per-administration range shown reflects the daily amounts reported across adult studies. All figures describe published research protocols.

Calculate a dilutionFrom powder to solution.
- Step 01
Add 1 ml bacteriostatic water
Aim the stream at the vial wall rather than the powder.
- Step 02
Swirl gently — never shake
Rotate the vial until the solution runs clear. Agitation degrades the peptide.
- Step 03
Refrigerate at 2–8 °C
Reconstituted vials belong in the fridge, protected from direct light.
- Step 04
Use within 21 days
Discard any remainder once the stability window closes.
Recombinant hGH is a full-length protein and is less robust in solution than the short synthetic peptides on neighbouring pages. Product literature and stability data generally support 14–21 days refrigerated at 2–8 °C after reconstitution rather than the 28 days commonly cited for small peptides; the shorter window is used here for that reason. Solutions are kept cold and protected from light, and are not frozen after mixing — freeze-thaw cycling degrades the protein.

Observed across the research window.
Milestones summarise findings reported in the cited studies. Outcomes vary across models and protocols.
Receptor binding and IGF-I signalling
Administered growth hormone binds the GH receptor directly, initiating hepatic IGF-I production. Because the hormone is supplied rather than released, the pituitary step that secretagogues and GHRH analogues target is bypassed.
IGF-I titration window
Guideline documents describe dose adjustment against serum IGF-I measured at intervals in this window, with the target expressed as an age-adjusted reference range rather than a fixed amount.
Body-composition measures
The 1989 double-blind trial in growth hormone-deficient adults reported changes in lean and fat mass and in basal metabolic rate against placebo over a six-month period. These are observations recorded in a deficient study population, not effects expected in any other context.
Protocol end points
Consensus and guideline documents structure adult protocols around 6- to 12-month reassessment intervals, at which IGF-I, metabolic markers, and continuation criteria are reviewed.
